South Western Railway Closure 01/05 to 04/05

Information from South Western Railway - Hounslow Loop Closure
(Sunday 1 May to Wednesday 4 May 2022)
From 1 to 4 May there will be four-day closure of the line between Barnes and Feltham via Hounslow. This is to allow Network Rail to carry out important infrastructure works to help improve reliability, journey times and potential route capacity. During this time walking and cycling is advised to avoid more congestion and for the people of Hounslow to keep healthy!
How will South Western Railway services be affected?
From the start of Sunday to the end of Wednesday, trains will not run between Barnes and Feltham (via Hounslow). Rail replacement buses will run between these stations on this route.
On Sunday 1 and Monday 2 May:
- Buses will run between Barnes and Feltham via Hounslow.
- Buses will also run between Barnes and Twickenham on Sunday afternoon and evening only
On Tuesday 3 and Wednesday 4 May:
- Buses will run between Barnes and Feltham via Hounslow.
- Buses will run between Barnes and Twickenham via Hounslow at peak hours only.
Trains will run as normal between Barnes and Feltham via Richmond and Twickenham. Anyone travelling during this period should plan ahead and check before they travel as the engineering works will mean trains are retimed. Local buses will also be available as usual.
The work has been timed to ensure it does not clash with major sporting events taking place at Twickenham Stadium on Saturday 30 April.

Why is this closure taking place?
The closure is part of the wider Feltham and Wokingham resignalling project. Once the project is complete, customers will see multiple benefits such as more capacity for future additional trains, fewer delays, and a more resilient service. The closure this week will allow engineers to install over 10km of new cables and signalling equipment.
This line will close again between Saturday 13 August and Tuesday 16 August, between Barnes and Feltham for further work on the Feltham and Wokingham resignalling project. There is more information about this major engineering scheme here.
