Air Quality in Schools
Air Quality Audits for Hounslow Schools
A City Hall analysis found that 98% of London schools are in areas exceeding WHO guideline pollution limits. This shocking data is made self-explanatory when it is coupled with the fact that 25% of morning traffic is due to school runs. For this Hounslow has been promoting active travel through different means, including the implementation of 28 school streets which prevent congestion at peak times, as well as educational measures on pollution and active travel through the STARS accreditation program.
The council also offer free air quality audits for schools after which sensors should be set up to monitor the air quality in the area. Funding of £5,000-£10,000 will then be available to all schools participating in the audit programme to aid the delivery of pollution mitigation in and around their schools.
