STARS in Hounslow
13 January 2020
The new year has brought with it shiny new STARS materials for our schools in Hounslow! These can be displayed in a teacher/parent facing environment and counts as a promotional activity towards accreditation. School newsletters and Parent Mail are the ideal place for these and will complement some of the local press we should be seeing in the coming weeks.
Not sure what STARS is and want to get involved?
STARS is an accreditation scheme for London schools and nurseries run by Transport for London (TfL) in partnership with borough councils. It inspires young Londoners to travel to school sustainably, actively, responsibly and safely by championing walking, scooting and cycling. The scheme supports pupils' wellbeing, helps to reduce congestion at the school gates and improve road safety and air quality.
In 2018/19, 35 schools were accredited in Hounslow - 13 of which were Bronze, 4 Silver and 18 Gold! These schools not only demonstrated a commitment to active travel and road safety, many of them experienced a modal shift where single car use among families decreased for the school commute.
TfL have launched a new STARS Awareness campaign on the 13th of January which will feature adverts in local press, roadside posters near schools, online advertising and an advert in the half term edition of primary times. This will raise the profile of the scheme and celebrate the good work of schools in the borough and London-wide.
