Hounslow Travel Active are working with primary schools with the aim of increasing the number of parents walking their children to school. We are doing this by targeting parents of reception age children who are starting full time education for the first time.

As part of this programme, parents of nursery pupils at Ivybridge and Isleworth Primary Schools will be invited to take part in Beat the Street. Parents will be receiving a swipe card at the start of term which can be tapped on special readers placed along safe walking routes around the school and in local parks.

The readers track the journeys and encourage active travel because every time you tap in you collect points to win prizes! The parents, children and classes which collect the most walking points will then win prizes for themselves and their class!

There are three other schools taking part in the study who will be playing the Traffic Snake Game, also designed to make walking and active travel more fun! Watch this space as we will be reporting our findings later this year with the hope of rolling out these great initiatives to other schools across the borough.
